Tom Harrison Announces London Jazz Festival Debut
Turaco Artist Tom Harrison is pleased to announce his debut performance as a leader at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2015. Harrison will lead a stellar quintet that had previously seen two festival outings in 2015. The group features UK trumpet ace Quentin Collins in the front line, as well as Steinway Artist and regular collaborator Robert Mitchell on piano. An excerpt from Tom's press release follows;
In its third outing of 2015, the Tom Harrison Quintet will be exploring the music of the unsung hero of alto saxophone Sonny Fortune, as well as lesser known tunes from the hard bop repertoire. Featuring prominently in the group is internationally renowned trumpeter Quentin Collins.
Described by MOJO magazine as 'a trumpeter whose style is a sizzling update of the Morgan/Hubbard approach', Quentin's performance credits range from Prince to Gregory Porter, as well as highly regarded jazz instrumentalists such as Will Vinson and Joel Frahm. Also appearing will be veteran virtuoso pianist and Steinway endorsee Robert Mitchell, as well as rising stars Dave Hamblett and Conor Chaplin.
Tom Harrison has performed or recorded with a host of internationally recognised jazz musicians in 12 countries, including Terell Stafford, Jason Rebello, Cleveland Watkiss, Michael Buckley and Jean Toussaint, as well as commercial artists such as Heather Small, M-People and The Fall. His debut album DAGDA was well received by the media, described as 'impressive' by Jazzwise and 'a strong calling card' by All About Jazz. The album was launched with a 22-date UK tour, featuring a series of guest tenor saxophonists including Jean Toussaint and Paul Booth.
The London Jazz Festival performance comes ahead of other headline performances planned in London and across the UK in the 2015/16 season, including The Vortex and the prestigious Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho.
